For programming receivers, it is necessary to have a very sophisticated programmer such as XPower which ensures that the programming process is not disturbed and interrupted by faulty commands which lead to a poor stability with Busy / Error problems.

For programming CI-CAMs, it is necessary that programmer and CAM are supplied with enough power. USB programmers often are malfunctioning because the host computer's USB port cannot handle the peak currents. There are even cases reported that notebook USB ports got damaged because of this.
